Fit For Reckoning

Little David declined King Saul’s armor. He went against Goliath, In the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel. The anointing of God turned a slingshot into a lethal assault missile. But, before David could wield it, he had to take off, and die to, any vestige of self-sufficiency. We too face a battle. And we have the same choice of weapons.

Father God, we go into battle understanding that the flesh is not worthy of our confidence. And so we take off the old and apply the full armor of God. In you alone we stand fit for reckoning.

Fit For Reckoning
When the enemy rages and my efforts fail
The old man has risen and seeks to prevail
That’s when I must stop to reckon the cost
And follow the One, who first took up the cross

My spirit was sealed but my soul remains prey
So I must submit it to death everyday
The armor is able – His word cannot lie
But, flesh un-submitted need not apply.

“Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the
Spirit.” Galatians 5:25

My Thoughts
There is a real enemy that seeks to destroy us. And there is also an internal battle being waged between the flesh (our old man) and our born again being. The flesh is self-centered and destined for failure against the devourer. Romans 6:11 tell us that we must reckon our old man dead. In doing so our new man can walk in victory because his boast is in the Lord of our salvation – Jesus Christ, our risen Savior.

Because Jesus overcame the world, we as His followers have the blessing of the ultimate victory He secured for us. But knowing the outcome of the war does not exempt us from engaging in the battle nor does it remove us from trials and tribulation. In fact, God uses the challenges we face as instruments of discipleship to strengthen our faith on this journey of transformation.
