The Changing Table

May 1, 2016 | Blogs, Poetry Spotlight

I can’t help but marvel at the loving kindness of our Lord. How blessed we are when the King of Glory comes knocking at the door of our hearts.

Dear Lord, as we come together I know it is I who stands in need: Sweet fellowship and transformation by your presence at the changing table.

.

The Changing Table

By grace I heard your knock
Faith opened up the door
That I might sup with you
Sweet Bread of Life, come down

My heart song was a cry
In need of Love’s refrain
The power to cast out fear
And guide me to the Light

Deliverance from the sin
Of lukewarm, carnal, flesh
My heavy-laden soul
Is lifted from the mire

Sweet balm of healing grace
I’m humbled by your touch
Destroyer of the yoke
For all that take your rest.

“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” Revelation 3:20

My Thoughts
When we receive salvation, it’s only the beginning of a relationship with the Father and His Son. Our Savior’s promise (Revelation 3:20) to sit down and dine with us is evidence of God’s desire for divine intimacy with His people. But this intimacy has a purpose: that we be transformed into His image. Because Jesus does not come in to dine with us, empty handed. He brings the blessing of deliverance, healing, and loving conviction. There’s no need to fear His touch (Revelation 3:19). Just as a baby is brought to the changing table to be washed and refreshed in the natural, we, as children of the most High God are privileged to have the blessing of spiritual cleansing and restoration.
