Manifest Destiny

May 1, 2018 | Blogs, Poetry Spotlight

We are to live our lives worthy of the calling we have received. Casual
contact with the Giver of Life is not enough for this journey.

Yes Lord, I want it bad enough! You have rekindled this passion. Pride has fallen at the Wailing Wall. I’m declaring my dependence on the One who executes manifest destiny.

Manifest Destiny
You gave me victory
I’m more than a conqueror
Redemption turned my heart of stone
I shall obey your call to faith

And by your Spirit
Cross the Jordan
Through raging winds and soaring tide

You gave me power
A shepherd’s bag with ve smooth stones
Goliath whimpers in my ears
I’ve faced the lion and the bear

And by your Spirit
Glory to God
The giant falls beneath my feet

Define this hour of my afterbirth
Is it the dawn of deliverance
Or is it just the edge of night?
My food shall be to do your will
Have your way in me, lest I starve

You gave me love
That by your precious gift of grace
I die to self – you lift me up
A vessel primed to bear good fruit

And by your Spirit
Fear is removed
I serve to edify the whole

You gave me vision
A hunger for the in nite
Reveal my path as I transcend
The blindness of my natural sight

And by your Spirit
A leap of faith
This purchased one has overcome!

“‘My food,’ said Jesus, ‘is to do the will of him who sent me and to nish his work.’” John 4:34

My Thoughts
In the natural, Manifest Destiny is described as the 19th-century doctrine or belief that the expansion of the U.S. throughout the American continent was both justified and inevitable (even though it resulted in the annihilation of many native people who stood in the way).

Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith. In Him we have a Manifest Destiny that is both holy and righteous. He leads us by His Spirit, and always knows where we are in our journey. In reverent obedience to His will, we’re sustained, others are edified, and God gets the glory. Through Christ we run a victorious race.

As a child, my ignorance of God’s love led me to daydream and to idolize those things that appeared to fulfill and affirm. Make-believe was my soulful comfort six days a week. But then came the big day: Our weekly cultural respite from, not enough. Like Cinderella at...
