Who was the little boy that crossed my path so long ago? So meek and lowly, he gave his all and was rejected.
Thank you Jesus for a truth once hidden but now revealed. He was “The least of these.” And so, in remembrance I record this first knight eulogy.
First Knight Eulogy
His name I never knew
“Boston Blacky” they called him
I tried to buy crayons one day
But my coins were short
He was there, beautiful and unkempt
I returned home and forgot
He smiled at me when I came to the door
All rags, except for those brand new Crayolas
Daddy teased, so I had to refuse.
I never saw him again --
Not with my eyes.
“…People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks
at the heart.”
1 Samuel 16:7
My thoughts
Sometimes God demonstrates His love to us through the most unlikely people. This little boy was the poorest of the poor, and the object of much ridicule. Yet, he had a heart so rich in love that it led him to bring me a gift. His sacrifice wasn’t borne of what he stood to gain, just a selfless desire to bless a shy, and often forgotten little girl. In retrospect, he was a knight in shining armor. All I can do after so many decades have passed, is to pay homage with words… and pray that God rewarded him as only HE can.
