But, if Not

Mar 1, 2021 | Blogs, Poetry Spotlight

Jesus forsook His own will for that of the Father’s. As His followers we are called to do the same.

Father God, I thank you for a Savior who passed the test at Gethsemane and set an example that I could follow by grace. All praises for a King whose rule is flawless and just. I know that you have heard my request. Like the three Hebrew boys, I rest in a faith that says, but, if not?

But, if Not?

Is there a greater lot than that cast by my Father’s hand?

A passion greater than His mating call?
A detour worth the finish line?
A time worth eternity?

If this cup does not pass
I know it’s served in perfect love
And I’ll drink to the best that’s yet to come.

“Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but
as you will.”

~ Matthew 26:39

My thoughts

There’s a place of surrender in our walk with God, where we come to realize that if what we desire is not aligned with His will, we must choose to trust the One who never makes a mistake. God’s plan is borne of His infinite wisdom, perfect love, and flawless will. Who or what makes our hearts flutter, but doesn’t have the Father’s approval, can’t help but fall short in the end. And if we’re honest, hindsight gives thanks for the things that weren’t granted when we asked.
Can I get a witness?

Jesus showed us the unconditional love of God. We, in turn, are called to demonstrate His love to everyone, from the most violated victim to the vilest criminal. Holy Spirit, come. Impart to us the mind of Christ. Grace us to obey as you reveal the Father’s heart....

Earthly Good

This world is not our home. But we have a great expectation. Eternity will extinguish time and only then will incorruption manifest. Until that day, we are called to run this race and not grow weary in well doing. Abba Father, enable your children to see the plank and...

In You

Pride cannot prevail against the message of the cross. In 1 Corinthians 1:17-31, Paul warns us to acknowledge the true source of power and consider what we were before God called us. I’m grateful, Jesus, for your disregard of human standards. In choosing me, you...
