“Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.”
1 Timothy 6:17-19
God’s Word instructs Christians not to conform to this world, but greed can be seductive. Jesus said that it was easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a wealthy person to enter His Kingdom. Indeed, some believers will ignore, minimize, or twist the Scriptures to defend their selfishness. God is not pleased when the wealthy slander, vilify, and neglect those whom He has called His people to care for. The offenders are deceiving themselves and others, but their rebellion cannot escape God, who sees and knows all things.
Dear Father,
Only your holy conviction can deliver those who are ensnared by the love of money. As flesh seeks approval for its actions, please intervene by the Spirit of Truth. Transform the hardhearted hoarders into blessed givers who hear and obey your Word. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
