“…On that day a great persecution broke out against the church in Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria.” Acts 8:1
“Those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went.” Acts 8:4
Breakups are often painful, and it’s often assumed that we must do all we can to avoid them—especially in the church. Because the Lord hates discord and strife, we should pursue unity by the Spirit. But some separations are divinely orchestrated. God allowed the persecution of the early church because that scattering advanced the Great Commission—which is still ongoing today. Each of us must be willing to go where God leads in order to fulfill His kingdom purpose for our lives.
Dear Lord, Help us to follow where you lead, even when the move is painful. We’re members of one body wherever we’re placed, and we must learn to see ourselves that way. It’s only by walking in obedience to the Spirit that we help to fulfill your will on earth.
