“Don’t lord it over the people assigned to your care, but lead them by your own good example. And when the Great Shepherd appears, you will receive a crown of never-ending glory and honor.” I Peter 5:3-4 NLT
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.”
2 Timothy 4: 7-8 NIV
Being in this world, but not of it can cause believers to confuse the two kingdoms. The desire for earthly status and immediate gratification has led both clergy and their followers astray. Even in our legitimate pursuit for human excellence, let us remember that nothing we obtain here is permanent. Our temporal ‘crowns’ will fade, but the faithful will receive an eternal crown of righteousness. Some who worship the King of kings, will be given crowns to cast at His feet. But those who forget this truth run the risk of gaining the whole world– and losing their souls in the process.
Dear Father, Don’t let us be spoiled by anything we gain in this world. Our achievements should edify others, and bring you glory. Give us priorities that are in keeping with your eternal kingdom. Let us endeavor to keep the faith and endure to the end. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
