“Even children are known by the way they act, whether their conduct is pure, and whether it is right.” Proverbs 20:11
At some point, many believers began to embrace the world’s view on parenting, and it has been to our undoing. Our Creator gave us an abundance of guidance for raising children, based on His infinite knowledge, wisdom, and love. Contrary to popular opinion, God calls our children to a level of accountability for their actions. If this were not appropriate or possible, He would not require it. But no child can achieve this unless they have been trained and disciplined by parents who know and apply God’s Word. Children who have no boundaries at home will expect to run wild wherever they go, and parents get indignant when their children aren’t welcome in other people’s homes. It never occurred to them that a well-behaved child would be welcome. Anyone raised by parents who didn’t allow such bad behavior can attest to the fact that their parents could take them anywhere. But a child that is raised without godly correction is more likely to become a lawless or dysfunctional adult who never takes responsibility for their actions.
Dear Lord,
Please forgive us for turning away from your guidance on parenting. We blamed boredom or the need to freely express themselves for our children’s bad behavior, and we indulged them to the point of dysfunction. Our failure to trust your Word has resulted in a rebellious generation that has little respect for themselves or others. Now, with contrite hearts we ask that this pattern be broken and reversed. Please save, deliver, and sanctify in Jesus’ Name.
