“Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
~Matthew 7:24-27
Though without sin, Jesus was well acquainted with the human condition. He understood our innate need to feel safe and secure, while living in a fallen, chaotic world. The forces of darkness collude with our carnal nature to lure us away from the right path. Deception comes when we mistake darkness for light—or sinking sand for solid ground. Christ, the Solid Rock wants us to know that our choices have consequences, both now and later.
Dear Lord,
Thank you for being the Way, the Truth, and the Life: The Omnipotent One who overcame the world. Please keep us from deception. You alone embody everything that is altogether good and trustworthy. You, your Name, and your Word are One. Those who stand on your Word find refuge and strength to prevail in this life and beyond.
